Here at Canyon View we are all coming off the high of Homecoming week. Walking down the hall you will catch a few more yawns than typical. However, all those yawns can assure us of one thing. Homecoming was a resounding success.

Homecoming week started out slow for most of the student body, but for the student council it started with a bang. On Monday the student council all headed over to Sparkles Car Wash and spent the next 3 hours washing and drying vehicles to raise money for CV Christmas (each year CVHS Student Government raises money to buy gifts for Christmas gifts for those in need at CVHS). I am happy to report that these efforts were not in vain; due to the generosity of the community we will be able to give students in need at Canyon View a little bit more Christmas joy. A big thank you to all the donors and the owners of Sparkles Car Wash, the Rigby family, for making this fundraiser possible.

The generosity doesn’t end there. Tuesday night we held a drive-in movie for the student body. We all bundled up in the backs of our suburbans and the beds of our trucks to watch a childhood favorite, Tangled. However, this Drive-In was unique because it also doubled as a food drive. Students brought money and cans of food to be donated to our Falcon Pantry, a program here at Canyon View to provide students in need with food, hygiene products, and other necessities. Falcon Pantry is open every Friday after school.

On Wednesday, we held our annual powderpuff game, and we kicked butt! Well the Senior girls did. During an assembly on Thursday, the Homecoming Court was announced. They included: King, Hutson Slack; Queen, Mckinlee Urie; 1st attendandants, Emma Armour and Kaden Ames; 2nd attendants, Kamryn Allen and Talmage Greener. Other members of the court included Cali Hinton, Madi Dastrup, Emma Rigby, Dawson Wood, Trey Jacobsen and Logan Maine. CVHS Also Crowned a Prince and Princess: Brew Ludlow and Nathan Dinsmore.

Then, on Thursday evening, students gathered at the football field to release glowing balloons into the night sky. Coach Dallas Lowry was the featured speaker and shared the story of how the CV on the hill came to be. For some it felt like the end to an era, and to others it felt like just the beginning.

Friday was Homecoming day, and it was awesome! Our student body representative, Kaelice Eastman, put together a super fun tailgate for the entire community, and it was a resounding success. Afterwards, we all crowded into the stands to watch our Homecoming game, and what a game it was. Manti started out strong and took the lead, but we quickly took it back. However, our lead didn’t last long and we remained tied for most of the 3rd quarter. It wasn’t till the end of the 4th quarter that we scored our winning touchdown. The entire student section celebrated with the team on the field under the shower of fireworks. I mean, What a way to end the night!

On Saturday, homecoming week came to a close with our homecoming dance. Senior class officers Presley Miller, Anna Barton, Kaidence Howard, and Karver Mock chaired the Homecoming dance. And although we all have very individualized experiences with our dates and groups, it’s safe to say the dance itself was quite enchanting. Yet, like all fairytales, homecoming week must come to an end, but that doesn't mean that it wasn’t happily ever after.
