On the morning of January 28th, just as I was about to leave for school, my phone got a notification. It was a text, and it read “Be careful on your way to school bud. Remember to stop and start slower” It was my mom.

After I got my driving permit, My mom was adamant on driving carefully and attentively. I often responded with agreeing facts and driving tips. Among these tips and tricks was one that stood out to my mom and in turn me. For every weather event, reduce your speed by five miles per hour.

I think it is very important to reduce your speed during storms. Often we feel in control of our vehicles, so much that driving becomes muscle memory. While this isn’t necessarily a big issue, it is important that we be mindful of our environments. The vehicle we drive won't always be in our control, so it is better to be safe than sorry.
