Last week in an epic basketball battle against rival teams, the whole town came together to support a great cause. Both black and blue, red and gold fought together to "Black Out" cancer.
Black Out has been a tradition to inhabit the halls of Canyon View since Coach Hodson’s time. We carry on the tradition in appreciation of his influence at both CVHS and CHS, and to play our part in battling Cancer.
The rival teams fought hard. Each team came out blazing. Fans filled the bleachers in support of their hometown ball players. Players left all their passion on the court. Canyon View girls stole the win from Cedar, yet Cedar boys were deemed victorious. The split fight of the night led both teams to victories.
The night was also a tribute to Canyon View's school spirit. Hundreds of posters decorated the gym walls: baring the beloved pop culture of the times. Canyon View's student government invited all members of the student body to paint posters for the event. The lingo, art, and characters from all elements of our day and age appeared on the walls of the gym. Not only does this tradition represent CV's students' stamp on their time at Canyon View High School, it gathers all students and inspires them to create something truly unique.
Black Out is a treasured Canyon View High School Tradition. Brynlee Clarke, CVHS Student Body Artisan, organized the ongoing process of poster making. She also designed the "Black Out" shirts students wore to the Black Out games. Clarke and the other twenty-six student government members began making posters following Homecoming in September. Student Government advisor, Amyanne Rigby, said of her student government members, "I'm not sure I will ever again have the opportunity to work with such fine student leaders. In one month's time they organized a Christmas Ball to raise funds to purchase Christmas gifts for fellow students in need; purchased, wrapped, and distributed those gifts, and simultaneously made countless posters and decorated an entire gym with those posters. They are simply amazing!"
