Another week and things are starting to heat up as FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) quickly approaches regional competition. Addison Bealer, the Vice President of the club, keeps up with important dates such as region on February 13th and state which is on March 25-27. The club meets typically on Wednesdays during lunch in order to get ready for regional.
FCCLA is a nationally recognized leadership club which focuses on helping communities and families. A big part of the community aspect is service. The service director, Sam Despain, plays a big part in this and for Canyon View.

“STAR events.” Another acronym meaning “Students Taking Action with Recognition.” The club is a great way of learning leadership skills. Shawnee Goldthorpe, the current Canyon View president of the club, said,“FCCLA has been a great part of my high school experience and has really helped me grow. It has pushed me out of my comfort zone and I have found I can do things I didn't even know I could. It has greatly increased my public speaking skills to both a large group or in a interview type of setting. It has helped me in other things like FFA or even presenting in class. I have really found some passions through FCCLA and I'm glad that I get to compete for Sterling Scholar under the FCS category!”
Through the clubs advisors, Crystal Baker and Kathrine Spencer. Club members are able to learn through leadership skills and take action.
