The Annual CVHS Pops concert was held on Wednesday, January 24th. This concert was filled with fun pop tunes performed by the CVHS and CVMS bands at 5:00 to 6:30 pm. The CVHS and CVMS Orchestras played from 7:00 to 8:00pm. CVHS Bands are under the Direction of Will Zeller with Derek Mathews as the concert band director. The CVMS Bands are under the direction of Lauralyn Anderson, Mr.B, the student teacher, as well as Derek Mathews. The CVHS orchestras are also under the direction of Will Zeller. The CVMS Orchestras are under the direction of Teresa Redd.
The 6th grade band started off the Concert by playing “Power Rock” arranged by Micheal Sweeney. Some other tunes included La Bamba, Crazy train, and some fan favorites, “The Chronicles of Narnia” and “I am the Doctor" played by the CVHS Orchestras.
Each Band/orchestra played a few songs as a class then they all joined on stage as one big Big band/orchestra. During the band portion, the Jazz band played fun, familiar tunes, like Believer, Carry on wayward son, and Go-daddy-O, between the bands coming on and off the stage. The Bands played “Louie Louie” arranged by Johnnie Vinson, and the Orchestras played the Popular “final countdown”
Katleyn Demille, A viola player in the CVHS Philharmonic and Sinfonia orchestras commented
“I love doing the pops concert because it brings all of the orchestras together. It's a time to let us play music that our audience would actually know and love. It's so fun to combine with all of the orchestras and fill the auditorium, and play "The Final Countdown" as one giant orchestra. The rehearsal is also really fun. We use that time to teach the middle schoolers how the concert will run, and I love being able to see Mrs. Redd and bring back those memories. The doughnuts and chocolate milk is a bonus. I like how we get to do a concert with the middle schoolers. It gives us a time to teach them how exciting music can be and how good they can get. We get to show them how they can continue to do music after middle school. It's super fun to combine with them and see how excited they get when they come over”.
