For years there has been a debate at CVHS. Which is the true blue and is it blue at all? When our school first opened in 1997 on the north side of Cedar City and became the natural rival of the then Cedar Redmen now Cedar Reds. Our student body had the choice to choose the school colors. According to some of the first graduates, the school colors were proclaimed black, silver, and teal.

This begs the question when and why did Carolina blue take over? The staff in the office said, “Carolina Blue was only supposed to be a substitute for teal if teal could not be found.” However, coaches and other leaders choose Carolina blue even when teal is available. The office continued with the question, “Where is everyone’s pride?”

The students should have a say in what our school colors should rightfully be. At the CVHS Homecoming Tailgate Party at the beginning of this year, a poll was conducted by the CVHS Debate Team. Teal or blue? Teal fairly won. There was a saying that students had their opinions on Carolina blue and if we should scrap the Carolina blue all together. Their response was unanimously teal. So why do we keep the color around as the more dominant as teal was the first and original school Pride color?

Teal wasn’t always an option and Carolina Blue was discovered as a substitute for teal. Our students may have comebacks and opinions about why teal is our school color and not Carolina blue. Some say that carolina blue is a better color than teal and that can be true, but opinions and pride are two different things. Our school's pride is what keeps our school spirited. Students have a right to say that what they want is Carolina blue as the school color.
