All year we have been working hard at Canyon View. Assignment after assignment, practice after practice, rehearsal after rehearsal. Sometimes these efforts really wear us down. Sometimes we feel unmotivated. Sometimes we need a break. Yet, despite our obstacles, we haven’t given up. We continue to work hard, and we won’t stop until we see the payoff of our efforts. For most of us, we have yet to see the payoff, but some groups have recently basked in its light.

Our Future Farmers of America Chapter recently went to state and did amazing. In fact, our FFA chapter was the only National qualifying chapter in all of southern Utah! In AG Mechanics and Tech System, Russel Maloney, Dallin Jones, Jake Hunter and Shawn Brown placed 10th overall. In Floriculture, Madi Hadley, Megan Lewis, Kyla Bird and Kayla Julander placed in the top 20. In Equine, Angela Nelson, Angela Mackelprang, Kennedy Rayburn and Halie Horton placed in the top 20. In Livestock, Hallie Shortt, Sam Sheets, Savannah Sheets and Trevor Neilson placed in the top 20. In Meats Evaluation, Hallie Shortt, Sam Sheets, Savannah Sheets and Trevor Neilson placed in the top 20. In Veterinary Science, Shelby Monteleone, Hannah Hafley, Shawnee Goldthorpe and Evangeline Gardner took 10th overall. In Marketing, Ashlyn Orton, Reese Ganci and Kenna Clark took 2nd overall! And in Prepared Speaking, Hallie Shortt took 1st overall! We are so proud of all of them. The time and commitment they dedicated to their team was definitely not in vain.

Additionally, Canyon View recently hosted State Theatre a couple of weeks ago. Classrooms were turned upside down in the hopes that they may become an adequate stage. Shouting and Singing could be heard up and down the halls as thespians performed and rehearsed their pieces. And at the end of state our drama department gathered in the auditorium for the awards ceremony and held our breath…and then we exhaled. In Costume Design Nick Evans took 3rd place. In Musical Theatre, Ivy Colbert took 3rd place. In Dramatic Monologues Blake Dunn took 1st place. And in Classical Scenes, Clara Call and Ivy Colbert took 1st place. In addition, Clara Call received the award Best Actress for her performance as Lady Macbeth in Macbeth! Congratulations to our winners and theatre department!

Finally, our athletes have been doing pretty well for themselves this season. Over the past month many track and field athletes have qualified for state. Last week our Baseball team recognized their seniors for all of their hard work and dedication. Furthermore, the baseball team is currently on a 5 win streak. Most recently they played Grand County and won 17-2. Similar to baseball, our Softball team hosted a senior night for their graduating players and have had a spectacular season. During their last game they beat Grand County 16 to 1. We are so proud of all of our athletes and their accomplishments.

This year has been a long race, but finally we are starting to cross the finish line.
