Last week Holly Barrick and eight students traveled to the UTA (Utah Theater Association) conference. It was a three day event hosted at Weber State University. Lincoln Paul, an alumni of CVHS, came along to help navigate the school with his experience of the conference. All three days were filled with workshops and shows. The CVHS theater team saw Urinetown at Fremont High School and Jane Eyre at Weber State University.
Urinetown is a high energy musical about having to pay to use the restroom and the class difference. Fremont High did an amazing job with the high notes and large ensemble. They used their new lights beautifully to enrapture the audience.
Jane Eyre was a gorgeously skin crawly production. It was a classical musical with beautiful vocals by Allie White. The story was enrapturing, pulling the audience to the edge of their seats.
For one of the workshops, Brian Martin from Open Jar Institute taught a portion of the opening dance from the broadway show Some Like it Hot. He walked the students through the dance, showcasing the various levels of talent in the room. Another workshop consisted of Francesca Mintowt-Czyz walking through the mannerisms and society expectations from the 1800s regency era. This included how to bow and curtsy as when as how to hold conversations with just a hand fan.
