Governor's Honors Academy, or GHA, is an opportunity for high school Juniors to expand th
their academic horizons.GHA, hosted by Southern Utah University, is a nine-day summer camp.
It's an opportunity for students to get a taste of college life, make lasting friendships, and “pursue
the quest of academic knowledge.” Governor's Honors Academy receives nearly 300
applications every year, and only 50 lucky individuals get to attend. The program can certainly
be described as rigorous. Students “are often busy from before sun up and don't retire until after
the sun has gone down.”

Little information is provided about the academics at GHA. Their official website explains, “It
is hard to describe the GHA experience - the best way to learn about GHA is to attend.” Students
expect to learn lots. Renowned speakers, group interactive sessions, attending National Parks,
and a talent show are only a few of the activities GHA promises.
Applications are free, but the total cost for attending GHA may be steep at $1300. Luckily,
according to their website, “participants are given information on seeking sponsors to help cover
the cost of attendance.” This cost also includes meals, lodging, and transportation during those
nine days.
Students must submit an official transcript, a resume, and an essay for the application process.
Applications are due on March 1st, so if this sounds appealing to you, head over to their website
and begin your application. Your quest of knowledge awaits!
