Hello Iron County! We once again welcome you to the nest. We are working hard to successfully start off the third quarter, but one thought seems to be on the minds of all Canyon View Falcons: STATE, STATE, STATE! Cheer, talons, and boys and girls basketball state competitions are quickly approaching and we couldn’t be more excited about it!

Cheer leaves for state this weekend. They qualified in both School Song and Time Out Cheer routines. Region was a success and the team hopes to carry this energy into the State competition. Coming in at first in School Song and Time Out Cheer, the team is full of fire and energy. They also claimed third in their Dance and Freestyle routines. Although Cheer tore up the floor at region, an extra energy is what will be needed to tip the tides in their favor for the State judges. They have put in the extra effort in practice this week and it is bound to help them on the floor.

This week the RPI for drill across the state came out and we are thrilled to announce that our Talons are ranked number one in 3A. Their exciting military routine, and colorful Little Mermaid character dance has captured the attention of all of Cedar, but Canyon View cannot wait to showcase our amazing dancers at regional competition. In an interview with Averi Pace, second year returner to the team, she said, “We have been counting down the days since our first practice for region and State. We have a real shot at winning and have been working our booties off!”

Girls Basketball has everyone on the edge of their seats. They are playing very well but a high RPI has not yet been secured. Rylee Savage, a Senior Captain on the team, said, “We are working really hard. How we perform in our next few games throughout the rest of region will determine our ranking in the RPI and who we play for the first round of State.” Canyon View can’t wait to support our Girls through their remaining region games.

With Covid once again on the rampage, students are being cautious as to protect the remainder of their school year. Masks are being worn to athletic competitions and suggestions and mandates given to us by the State and individual Schools we visit are being carefully followed. Anna Barton, Junior Class Activities Chair, said, “COVID made me appreciate going out with friends. Before the pandemic we could hit the town whenever we wanted. We now have to protect that by being cautious of illness.” Students and staff are defending the classroom and each other through new strains of COVID.

We would like to give a special shoutout to our Athlete of the week. Andrew Barnes is a man with a plan! Whether it be on the football field or basketball court, he always displays excellence in his athletic endeavors.

We would also like to thank our Artist of the Week for bringing color to Canyon View. Hailey Rollins is representing our school as the Visual Arts Sterling Scholar. We wish her luck in the following steps of this rigorous project as she approaches the regional competition!
