Hello Iron County. This is Brooklyn Rushton, your Canyon View High School Student Body Historian. I would like to thank you all on behalf of the CVHS Student Government for making this column happen. Positive feedback has helped us to soar. Personally, writing for my community has been the highlight of my year. I thank you for letting me be the voice of the Falcons. I am so thankful for Iron County.

I also would like to thank you to all those who have helped me in the Sterling Scholar program. My work in the Iron County Today was one of the highlights that helped me to receive runner up in the competition. Thank you for sharing my passion for journalism with me. The Sterling Scholar program includes many rigorous interviews, along with the creation of an all-inclusive portfolio. Being a part of this competition was ever so humbling; furthermore, being surrounded by Southern Utah’s most talented students is an extremely motivating experience. Being awarded a runner up in this program was an incredible honor. As a Sterling Scholar for Southern Utah, I promise my community and the incredible Sterling Scholar program to continue to be a Sterling Scholar: a dedicated member of the community who gives back through their passions.

Canyon View would like to congratulate the other Sterling Scholar winners: Quinn Ohms received runner up in Skilled and Technical Sciences and Kelsey Topham received runner up in Agricultural Science.

Canyon View is finding success in the community left and right. Our dedicated students are applying their talents to local competitions all across the board and are killing the competition! Skills USA had five medalists from Canyon View: Electronics, first place Lane Cox; Electronics Technology, Mardi Hepworth; Third place Medical Math, Cody Bills; third place Job Skills Demo Open, Tate Ralphs; third place Technical Drafting, Kandice Adams. Advisor, David Sorensen said, “We had a very awesome group of students this year that represented Canyon View very well…” We would like to also Congratulate Mardi Hepworth on her involvement in the Sterling Scholar program at CV this year. Her efforts not only shined in the SkillsUSA competition, but in representing Canyon View in the Mathematics department.

On March 16th, the Canyon View chapter of TSA competed at the state conference, bringing home two sets of gold medals. Hannah Hafley and Devin Howe tore it up in the Fashion Design Technology category. Their performance paid off and helped us to bring home a win. In CIM Tate Ralphs, Ethan Cannon, David Fife, Eli Jones, and Case Curtis attained a victory as a team. We congratulate and thank these outstanding students for representing Canyon View so well.

We are also ecstatic to announce that we have attained two region championships this year. We were elated when drill claimed region 12 in January, and are pleased to announce that CV Theater has claimed the title for Canyon View once again. They took 1st in Sweepstakes, 2nd in Place One Act, and Best Ensemble in A One Act. We congratulate this incredible group on their hard work and successes this year.
